MULTI denominational vocal gospel groups will be performing in the Gospel Festival for Cyclone Winston Free Will Offering at Ratu Sukuna Park in Suva today.
One of the co-ordinators Pastor Tuimasi Vuetaki said the event was being hosted by a committee derived from different denominations whose purpose was not only to raise funds, but also to reach out to people by spreading the gospel through worship songs and prayer.
He said the idea came after they saw the Rise Up Fiji concert and decided to hold a similar event with gospel artistes and vocal groups.
Mr Vuetaki said funds collected would be forwarded to the Prime Minister’s cyclone relief fund.
The event will be hosted by the Minister for National Disaster Management, Inia Seruiratu.
Mr Vuetaki said more than 20 featured artistes would be performing, including some big names in gospel music such as Sekove Raikoro, The Kommission and New Covenant gospel groups.
In an interview, Raikoro said he was happy to take part in the show today because it would be a chance for him to share the gospel of Jesus Christ and perform at the same time.
“I want to encourage all those affected by Severe TC Winston to never lose faith in Jesus as he is the way, the truth and the life,” Raikoro said.
The event starts at 10am and is scheduled to end about six o’clock.
